The Permanent Secretary of the dissolved Ministry of Tourism, Fathimath Shaufa, has been sacked after the merger of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment to form the new Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
She confirmed the dismissal to Adhadhu.
"I was informed verbally. [They said] the decision was taken because the two ministries were merged and reform work was ongoing," she said.
The anonymous Hassan Kurusee account on X said Shaufa was fired because she belongs to the same island as recently dismissed Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal.
Attempts to reach the government for comment have been unsuccessful, while the Civil Service Commission (CSC) was also not available for comment.
Thoriq Ibrahim, who was the former Environment Minister, has now been appointed as the Minister of Tourism and Environment.
