Government decides to relocate people of Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo

The government has decided to relocate the people of Haa Dhaal Hirimaradhoo to Haa Dhaal Hanimaadhoo.

In a post on X, President's Office spokesperson Heena Waleed said the decision was taken at the request of the people of Hirimaradhoo.

Hirimaradhoo people have requested relocation many times before and met with Local Government Minister Adam Shareef in September 2024.

But the islanders' first choice for relocation was Kaafu Thulusdhoo while Hanimaadhoo was their second choice.

Hirimaradhoo councillor Mohamed Aruzan earlier told Adhadhu that the matter had been discussed with relevant authorities and the councils of the two islands.

According to the 2022 census, 260 people live in Hirimaradhoo. The island offers education up to grade 10 and competes in national-level competitions.
