The Housing and Construction Ministry has said that only the forms of the 4,000 flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya scheme will be verified.
During a press conference at the President's Office on Tuesday, Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib said they have now decided not to re-evaluate all the forms and to verify only the forms of the 4000 selected applicants.
"This is not a re-evaluation of the applicants. We will not re-evaluate the 20,000 forms. This is an attempt to verify the 4,000 applicants announced on November 15, 2023, as the list of flat recipients," he said.
Muththalib said the verification process will be completed soon and the final list of flat recipients will be published in the government gazette before Ramadan.
He added that the list will include details on how flat recipients were selected or rejected.
Muththalib stated that the relevant authorities have instructed the ministry to reject people from the flat recipients' list if their forms are found to contain inaccurate information.
He said the current task is to verify the forms and sign the agreement with the final flat recipients as soon as possible.
He said that a decision on the flats of the rejected applicants will be made after completing the verification process.
"Once we know, we will decide what to do with the remaining flats. Right now we are working on verifying the recipients of the 4,000 flats," he said.
Muththalib also said the forms will be verified based on the rules and instructions mentioned in the Gedhoruveriya portal.
