The government has dismissed reports that the social media platform TikTok will be blocked in the country.
Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed said in a post on X that the "government has made no decisions to block any Social Media Platforms."
"It is disheartening to see the spread of misinformation on social media regarding the potential blocking of certain social media platforms," she wrote.
She further said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is committed to protecting and promoting the fundamental rights of the people under the Constitution.
The government blocked two websites soon after President Muizzu assumed office in November 2023.
The government initially denied it. But later said the websites were blocked because they were operating as unregistered news websites.
