China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has been awarded the contract to develop roads and municipal buildings in Gulhifalhu.
The contract was awarded during a ceremony at the President's Office today.
Housing Minister Abdullah Muththalib and CMEC Regional General Manager Qian Haojun signed the agreement.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Muththalib said the agreement follows an MoU reached during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China last year.
Under the agreement, Chinese contractors will create electricity, water and sewerage network systems, dewatering systems, develop roads and create gigabit ethernet passive optical network (PGON) duct systems and gas storage distribution centres.
At the ceremony, Haojun said CMEC is an old friend of Maldives and is committed to the country's development.
He noted that the company has 14 years of experience in implementing various projects in the Maldives.
