Male' city's Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh has threatened to find Adhadhu informants among the city council staff.
In several messages to a group of senior city council officials, the ruling People's National Congress (PNC)'s Nareesh shared an Adhadhu article and warned against the informants.
"I want to know who gave this information from the council! If you are scared to reveal yourself here, I will find you. If you fall to this level, we will fall to an even lower level. Then it will not be easy for anyone to run the council," he wrote.
He added that the spokesperson will be appointed with the council's approval in the future and said he will not follow rules if there are no rules on providing information to the media.
"If you kept attacking politically, we would not have cooperated in operations. But that is not how we reacted," Nareesh said referring to Mayor Adam Azim from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
"If there is a political attack, we will not support it. But that is not how we have been doing it," Nareesh wrote in his last message.
Adhadhu has obtained a screenshot of his messages to the group. Nareesh was upset after Adhadhu reported on an agreement made by the city council when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was Male' Mayor.
