Malé, Maldives: B. Eydhafushi emerged victorious over Addu City with a 2-0 win in the final to claim the Ninety Plus Gold Cup 2024 title.
The tournament, organized by Ninety Plus in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, was a thrilling football festival, with 17 teams competing for the prestigious trophy.
Eydhafushi ’s only defeat in the tournament came against Maafushi, while Addu City made an impressive run to the final without losing a match.
Eydhafushi took the lead in the first half when Hamza Mohamed (Hampu) delivered a well-placed corner that was headed in by Mohamed Fasir (Faatte), who was later named the player of the tournament.
Former All Youth Link Age (AYL) player at top tier of Maldives Football a decade ago, Faatte played a pivotal role throughout the Gold Cup, showcasing his experience and ability to rise to the occasion in crucial moments.
In the second half, Addu City controlled much of the possession and had several chances to equalize.
Addu City's Ibrahim Waheed Hassan (Ibbe) saw his header go wide, and team captain Shamweel Gasim (Bonda) had his shot blocked.
Eydhafushi sealed the victory when Ali Fasir (Sentey) scored their second goal. Hampu’s header was controlled by Sentey, who made space for himself and drove the ball past Addu City goalkeeper Vishan Abdul Majeed.
Sentey celebrated with his iconic goal celebration, and Eydhafushi’s supporters joined in the moment of joy, adding to the excitement of the final.
With this win, Eydhafushi has strengthened its legacy in Maldivian football. This victory comes eight years after their triumph in the 2016 Minivan Championship, when they defeated Thimarafushi 1-0 to lift the title.
The Ninety Plus Gold Cup 2024 further elevates Eydhafushi's standing in the country’s football hierarchy.
