It has been revealed that Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), lied about the boundary wall not being built on land secretly acquired by individuals ineligible for the Binveriya scheme.
At a press conference held by HDC tonight, Fazul claimed the permits for the disputed plots had been canceled and that no boundary walls had been built on those lands.
"The issue came to light when permits were issued for the plots. However, the wall was not built. Permits were issued and later canceled for two parties" Fazul stated.
Contrary to Fazul’s claims, a visit by Adhadhu to Hulhumalé Lot Number 20768, which had been allocated to two different parties under the Binveriya scheme, revealed a newly constructed boundary wall. Building materials used for the wall were also found at the site.
Documents obtained by Adhadhu and those circulating on social media show that the Housing Ministry had been asked to clarify the ownership of disputed lands allocated by HDC. The Ministry responded that these plots were not handed over to anyone under the scheme.
One of the plots is owned by Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Fazul's brother and the Deputy Managing Director of MWSC. Adhadhu’s review of the Binveriya scheme’s list confirmed that Fazeel had applied for land but was declared ineligible due to previously receiving housing under a government scheme.
A source told Adhadhu that unallocated land is being secretly distributed, accusing HDC MD Fazul of orchestrating such transactions.
The police entered HDC yesterday under a court order, and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is also investigating the case.
