Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has today decided to dismiss the Vice Presidents and some members of the Elections Commission (EC) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
A closed-door meeting was held on Sunday to dismiss;
- ACC Vice President Abdul Salaam
- ACC member Thoha Mohamed
- EC Vice President Ali Nashaath
- EC member Mohamed Zahir
- EC member Mohamed Asif
The committee also deliberated on dismissing President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mohamed Nasih but decided against his dismissal.
According to a complaint filed on October 22, Nashaath, Zahir and Asif had violated the Code of Conduct for EC. But no details were disclosed.
Meanwhile, two complaints were filed against Abdul Salaam and Thoha. They were accused of acting in violation of Article 17 (a) and (b) of the ACC Act.
All five were appointed to the institutions during the previous government and when the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had a supermajority in the Parliament.
