Naahil Appointed as General Secretary of FAM

Male' Maldives: Football association of Maldives (FAM)'s normalizing committee has decided to appoint Naahil Ahmed Sidheeq as the general secretory of FAM.

The Normalizing Committee has appointed 24-year-old Naahil, who previously served as the Political Director of the Ministry of Sports, as the new General Secretary of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). The decision follows a thorough review of candidates' resumes, educational qualifications, and interviews. FAM had previously issued a call for applications for the position in the official gazette.

Naahil, who was once part of the youth national football team, holds degrees and a master’s in Business Management and Business Administration from the University of the West of England. He previously worked in FAM’s competition department but left earlier this year to pursue a government role. During his time at FAM, he also earned a certificate in football management.

Most recently, Naahil served as the head of delegation for the national U-16 team that participated in the AFC U-16 qualifiers in China. He will officially take over his new role as General Secretary of FAM next week.

The General Secretary role was previously held by Javshan Shareef (Jau), who took on the position during the latter part of former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel’s tenure. Javshan continued in the role even after the Normalizing Committee appointed by FIFA began its work in August. He had initially agreed to stay on without remuneration until a permanent appointment was made, despite submitting his resignation.

Naahil will become the fourth General Secretary of FAM in the past decade and is the youngest person to hold the position in the association’s history. As General Secretary, he will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of FAM, in line with the association's constitution and under the guidance of the executive committee.
