The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has said that the Aasandha national health insurance scheme will be available to private insurance holders due to the suspension of cashless services of some private insurance companies.
On November 1, NSPA introduced new rules which made Aasandha inaccessible for those with private insurance unless they ran out of the private insurance amount. This caused confusion and frustration among the public.
In a statement issued on Saturday night, NSPA said people can access Aasandha if private insurance coverage or services are not available.
"In all cases where private insurance companies do not have coverage under their own insurance policies and the people have to pay out of their own pocket, Aasandha coverage will continue to be available," the statement read.
The government introduced reforms to the national health insurance scheme in order to cut costs due to the deteriorating financial situation.
The country’s largest private hospital, ADK, has said that the sudden changes will cause delays in providing services at hospital counters.
