Maldives has condemned Israel's attack on Iranian military bases on Friday night, calling it a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that it is important to maintain peace in the Middle East and ensure safety and security without further escalation of tensions.
"The Government of Maldives calls for the immediate de-escalation of hostilities that have exacerbated tensions, threatening the security of the countries and peoples across the region," the statement read.
It also urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint to diffuse tensions and respect international law and called on the international community "to undertake all measures necessary to support efforts to bring immediate cessation of hostilities and enhance dialogue to ensure lasting peace in the region."
Reports say Israel's attack on Iran targeted at least 20 locations in three provinces. However, most of the missiles were intercepted by Iran.
Israel attacked Iran in response to the 200 ballistic missiles launched into the country on October 1. Israeli military bases were reportedly damaged in the attack.
The international community has been unsuccessful in stopping Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon.
