The government has announced that the new draw among those who received land plots from Gulhifalhu under the Binveriya scheme will begin on Tuesday without giving numbers for the plots under the recently approved land use plan.
According to an announcement published in the gazette by the Housing Ministry on Friday night, the draw will begin at 9:00 am on October 29 (Tuesday) at Dharubaaruge Rannabanderi Maalam.
The draw will be conducted in the order compiled by the Housing Ministry under the supervision of the ministry employees, the announcement said. The draw will be broadcast live on public media, it added.
A new draw for the recipients of land plots from Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu had to be announced after the current government discarded land use plans formulated by the former government and approved new land use plans.
The land use plans approved by the government on October 16 have allocated additional land for sports areas, municipal services, tourism and industrial areas.
However, the plot numbers were not specified in the new plans making it easier for corruption while awarding plots despite conducting a draw.
According to the announcement, if the recipient is unable to attend the draw, the person who replaces them must appear with a no-objection letter and a copy of the recipient's ID card.
Those who decided to give up land plots from Giraavarufalhu to get plots in Gulhifalhu will also take part in the draw. Information on the registry of land and agreements with landowners will be shared later after the draw.
The previous government had decided to allot plots to 97 percent of the applicants. That is 9,001 plots for 18,955 people. The land is being provided from Hulhumale' Phase 2 and 3, Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu.
