WAMCO achieves historic title defense of the Club Maldives Cup

Male' Maldives (October 19) - Club WAMCO claimed a 4-1 victory over Road Recreation Club (RRC) to successfully defend their Club Maldives Cup title.

After nine years, a team has managed to retain the prestigious Club Maldives Cup title—Club WAMCO has achieved this remarkable milestone. The last team to do so was STO RC in 2014 and 2015. WAMCO now joins the ranks of STO, MPL (2012, 2013), and MACL (2007, 2008) in accomplishing this feat.

Abdulla Midhuhath Fahmy (Bichard) opened the scoring in the final, capitalizing on a clear opportunity created by Ali Shamis (Thoppey). Towards the end of the first half, substitute Ibrahim Mahudhee (Feydhoo Ibbe) found space near RRC's area and netted the equalizer.

Iranian player Ali Reza Sheihlar, named Man of the Match, provided an excellent assist for Ali Shiyah (Shiyalhey), who then scored to put WAMCO back in the lead.

RRC’s Bichard and Ismail Muneez squandered crucial chances to level the match. Shiyah went on to score two more goals, completing his hat trick and securing the victory for WAMCO. His first goal came from a mistake by RRC goalkeeper Mohamed Zuhal, who failed to handle a low shot from Shiyah.

The Dream Team includes Bichard and Ali Haafiz (Haape) from RRC, alongside Abdulla Junaid (Jeynne), Shiyah, and Abdulla Zimaam from WAMCO. Jeynne was awarded the King of Futsal title, while WAMCO’s Ahmed Thoha received the Master of Futsal Best Coach award.

The Most Promising Player award went to Ahmed Aflaaz, the Fair Player award was given to Ahnaf Rasheed (Ahukko), and the Fair Play Team award was won by Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC). RRC was recognized with the Best Supporters award.

The Club Maldives Futsal Awards were officially launched ahead of the final match, with the honors presented by the chief guest, Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu.
