President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned to the Maldives today after completing a five-day state visit to neighbouring India.

President Muizzu travelled to India on Sunday and returned to the Maldives on Thursday afternoon.

During the visit, the President met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and other dignitaries.

The President was accompanied by a delegation of ministers and official talks were held between the two countries.

Five MoUs were signed between the Maldives and India during the visit.

After assuming office in November last year, Muizzu visited China and criticized India upon returning to the Maldives.

Relations between the two countries also deteriorated after senior government officials insulted Modi on social media.

However, relations have been improving since Muizzu attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony in June.
