Ooredoo Maldives' 5G network is stronger with better customer experience, the company's Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Hussain Niyaz has said.

In an exclusive interview with Adhadhu, Niyaz said customers will be able to experience the best of 5G by connecting data centres with submarine cables directly from Maldives to Singapore and Europe without going through India and Sri Lanka for the first time.

"We have two data centers. Data is very important. If one fails, we have to go to the other one. The data centers are hosted by Google and Netflix and the data is cached in our data center," Niyaz said.

Maldives and Singapore were connected by submarine cable through Ooredoo's data center in Kulhudhuffushi. Ooredoo also has a data center in Hulhumale'.

Niyaz said the purpose of having two data centers is to provide uninterrupted service when the service is disrupted from one center.

Noting the importance of the data centers, Niyaz said Maldives is open to the whole world and it is essential to get the same services as other major countries.

Ooredoo started the first 5G tests in Maldives in 2019 and by the end of 2020, 5G was introduced in the Greater Male' region.

"By the end of 2020, 5G was rolled out to the entire Greater Male' area as Phase 1. This time, to mark the 19th anniversary, 5G has been expanded to other parts of the country. Today 60 percent of the population can access 5G service," he said.

Niyaz said Ooredoo will bring new technologies to the Maldives in the future to include the country among the most technologically advanced countries.

He also thanked the customers for their love and appreciated the hard work of the employees.
