Two Maldivian doctors working as interns at the medical college in Chittagong, Bangladesh have been attacked.
State Minister at the Higher Education Ministry Abdulla Nazeer said the two female doctors studying medicine came under attack after some people had been unhappy over the treatment given to a patient.
"They were dissatisfied with the treatment given to a patient from the hospital and took out their anger on the doctors. Two of our doctors were on duty there at the time. That's what happened," Nazeer said.
Friends of the two doctors said they did not sustain major injuries, he added.
Nazeer said the Higher Education Ministry is investigating the incident in collaboration with the Maldives Embassy in Bangladesh and assistance had been provided to the students.
He stated that authorities had also contacted other Maldivian students in different parts of Bangladesh and received information that they had not faced similar incidents.
Nazeer said the Higher Education Ministry and the Foreign Ministry would closely investigate the attack on the two doctors.
