The handover of 4000 housing units to be developed in Hulhumale Phase Two under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme has been halted on the orders of the government, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) said today.
In a press release, the FDC said the Housing Ministry had previously ordered the suspension of all work related to the handover of the units.
"Earlier, the corporation has been directed to suspend all activities related to the handover of the units. Hence, all matters regarding the handover of the units can be conducted only after the ministry issues a notice," the FDC said.
The press release noted that many people were seeking information about the agreements and handover of the 4000 housing units.
However, the FDC said the work to determine the housing unit recipients and the type of units to be designated for each recipient will be done by the Housing Ministry.
Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar said the final list of flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme will be made public before the end of October this year.
Replying to questions raised by MPs in the Parliamentary Petitions Committee, Haidar said the Housing Ministry is working to compile a final list of flat recipients before the completion of the buildings under the scheme.
The former government decided that 15,046 applicants for the scheme were eligible and to award flats to all eligible applicants. However, work only began for 4000 flats by the end of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government.
The first 4000 flats were to be given to those with the highest points. But the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) ordered to halt the process. The ACC allowed the Housing Ministry to resume work in February.
