Male, Maldives (August 16): Two committed para-athletes, Abdul Razzaq Abdul Samad and Fathimath Ibrahim (Faathun), will represent the Maldives at the upcoming Paralympics in France.

The Paralympics will be held in Paris from August 28th to September 8th.

Special Olympics Maldives has selected Faathun and Razzaq to compete in the upcoming Paralympics based on their current rankings. Both athletes previously earned bronze medals at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Madagascar last year, which remains their most significant achievement to date.

Faathun previously participated in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics (held in 2021 due to COVID-19 delays), marking Maldives' debut in the event. Razzaq, who began his athletic career in 2022, will make his debut on the global stage at this year's Paralympics.

Since the official establishment of Special Olympics Maldives five years ago, opportunities for para-athletes have expanded, leading to increased participation and growing talent across various sports.
