The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said nine islands reported flooding by 6:00 pm Monday as the country experiences the intensifying effects of the southwest monsoon.
In a post on X, NDMA said nine islands reported floods and extreme winds but there has been no need to evacuate any families.
The floods were reported in Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Hithadhoo in Addu city, Gaaf Alif Dhevvadhoo, Lhaviyani Naifaru and Kurendhoo, Kulhudhuffushi city, Haa Alif Baarah and Dhidhdhoo.
A white alert was in place for Monday for the entire country while the Met Office has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain with thunderstorms and winds of between 25 and 30 mph in the northern atolls today.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning to the public to take precautionary measures as the rain continues to intensify.
