The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have advised the public to take precautions and stay safe as the southwestern monsoon is expected to continue starting next week.
In a post on X, the Met Office said winds of 40 to 45 mph are expected for the next five days starting Sunday.
The Met Office advised to be vigilant and urged seafarers to check the latest weather information before starting their journey.
Meanwhile, the NDMA has issued a safety guideline following the Met Office's advice.
The NDMA advised putting sandbags at front doors to prevent flood waters from entering homes in case of heavy rains.
The authority also advised to keep electrical appliances turned off when not in use and urged seafarers to observe the weather conditions and ensure communication systems are in place.
The NDMA further cautioned to make arrangements to avoid any damages to staple food items and other essential commodities.
