A fact check by Adhadhu has found that a video circulating on social media, purporting to show Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem, originally shows a Pakistani man.

The video, which shows a woman and a man engaged in intimacy, was posted on social media last night. The man in the video appears to be Shaheem while the woman's face is not visible.

Adhadhu looked into the origin of the video and found that the pair seen in the video were Pakistani nationals. The original video is available on various sites on the internet.

It can be confirmed that the video which emerged last night was deepfaked with Shaheem's face. It is not clear whether Shaheem had commented on the matter as his X account had been locked from the public.

A deepfake video of Shaheem is circulating on social media at a time when he is facing criticism over several matters.

He was criticized for not condemning the Israeli attack on Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh last week and for not ordering funeral prayers for Haniyeh. There has also been criticism over the quality of his PhD thesis.

Shaheem and some political and religious figures have posted in his defence on social media. The video released yesterday is not genuine, sources close to Shaheem said.
