A suspect has been arrested in connection with the assault of a youth in Hulhumale' Phase One on July 8.
A 22-year-old man was arrested with a court warrant today and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Ahmed Nazeef, 26, an employee of the State Trading Organisation (STO) shop in Hulhumale' from Meemu Raiymandhoo, was assaulted by a group of people.
Speaking on behalf of Nazeef's family, his uncle told Adhadhu that Nazeef had been assaulted after he parked his motorcycle. The motive remains unclear, he said.
"A large area on the back of Nazeef's head was broken. Blood leaked into the brain. The lips were also torn. One eye was also very swollen," he siad.
Nazeef is a quiet person who did not face any conflicts before, his uncle said. Nazeef has been severely psychologically affected by the assault, he said.
Nazeef, who is married, is the only child of his mother and father. Nazeef's father passed away while he was very young.
