The Islamic Ministry has said that no signs of black magic were found from a doll key tag seized as evidence from the house of former State Minister at the Environment Ministry Fathimath Shamnaz and her sister Hawwa Sana Saleem.

Speaking to Adhadhu about Shamnaz's case, her lawyer Ali Shah said the police had not produced any evidence against her so far. He added that police told the court citing the Islamic Ministry that the doll taken from the house also contained no signs of black magic.

"The Islamic Ministry has analyzed the key tag and other items taken from Shamnaz's house and has given the opinion that there is nothing related to black magic or shirk [accepting other beings alongside God as associates]," Shah said.

"The police told the court that the Islamic Ministry had given such an opinion that there was nothing related to shirk involved."

In addition to Shamnaz and Sana's phones, police took a sealed mobile phone, a key tag distributed during an Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) tournament, a lock of hair found in Sana's room and a necklace from Shamnaz's room.

The key tag police confiscated was a woollen plush doll.

The arrest of Shamnaz and the search of her apartment were both based solely on an intelligence report.

Shamnaz and Sana were arrested for allegedly paying Hussain Sameer from Thaa Kinbidhoo on several occasions to practice "sorcery and black magic to split up a couple and to win over love and establish close relations with persons".

Sameer was also arrested but has now been released.

Shah said Shamnaz had been framed and her arrest was due to political influence. He added that this is why the police cannot find any evidence against her.

"The police want Shamnaz to give a statement against Adam Rameez and said they will release her when the statement is given," he said.

"Obviously, she wouldn't give a statement to frame [her ex-husband]."

President's Office Minister Adam Rameez's divorced Shamnaz a few days before her arrest. Rameez was suspended after the media reported the arrest on June 23.

Rameez, who was President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's "right-hand man", has been on suspension for the past two weeks.

Adhadhu understands that the relationship between Rameez and Muizzu had soured before her arrest and Rameez had been "isolated" from the President.
