Shamnaz and sister's remand extended for five days

The detention of former State Minister for Environment Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem and her sister Hawwa Sana Saleem over alleged black magic was extended on Monday by a further five days.

Their remand hearing at the Criminal Court was conducted behind closed doors. Shamnaz is accused of using sorcery or black magic against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. However, the government has said that the President has no connection to the case.

Shamnaz, her sister Sana and the alleged sorcerer, Hussain Sameer from Thaa Kinbidhoo, were arrested based on a police intelligence report. However, police have not divulged any details about the allegations.

Shamnaz and her sister were arrested on June 23. They have now been in custody for over two weeks.
