Former Chief of Defense Force, Lt. Gen., Retd., Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, who served as a State Minister at the Foreign Ministry, has been approved by the Parliament as Maldives Ambassador to Türkiye.
Meanwhile, Thoha Mohamed from Ufanveli of Noonu Holhudhoo island was approved as Ambassador to Pakistan.
The two were approved unanimously with the votes of 82 MPs in attendance at today's sitting of Parliament.
Abdul Raheem retired from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on April 18 at the age of 60. He served in the army for 39 years and retired in accordance with the Army Forces Act. He later served as a State Minister at the Foreign Ministry.
He is the first ambassador of Maldives to Turkey. On December 10, 2023, the government announced the decision to establish a Maldives embassy in Turkey for the first time.
Parliament earlier approved the appointment of Thoha as Maldives ambassador to Saudi Arabia on May 6. The President handed over the letters to the ambassadors on May 7, but Thoha was not among them.
The President's Office later nominated his name to the Parliament as ambassador to Pakistan.
