Male' Mayor Adam Azim has expressed concern over the failure of agencies to enforce the law.
Azim told Adhadhu that Maldivian institutions are weak in law enforcement and that a person who commits a crime should be punished in accordance with the law.
However, the whole country is falling into ruin due to the weakness of law enforcement agencies, which should enforce the law without hesitance or excuses, he said.
"In my view, this country is now a playground. It's free for all for everyone. Do whatever you want. That's what we see. This is the state of the entire country. All enforcement agencies need to keep enforcing the law without making any kind of excuses," Azim said.
The people elected representatives to public office with the hopes of having a safe and secure environment, Azim noted. People cannot live in a society without public order and security, which was the present situation in the country, Azim said.
Security is lost due to the failure to enforce the law, Azim said, adding that the authorities were failing to take action against evident wrongdoing.
"The people don't want to keep this country as a playground. Everyone who has been elected or appointed to posts needs to enforce laws and regulations in order to steer the country back to the right path. The country can't be saved in any other way," Azim said.
Azim assured that the Male' city council would enforce laws and regulations within its powers, calling on law enforcement agencies to do the same.
