MFDA advises against 15 medicines manufactured in Thailand

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has advised not to purchase 15 medicines manufactured in Thailand.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency said the drugs are not on the list of drugs allowed to be imported into Maldives.

“Thailand is a country where Maldivians go for medical treatment and in some cases, medicines are imported from Thailand for individual reasons,” the statement said.

The MFDA said Thailand's Food and Drug Authority has informed that Seven Stars Pharmaceutical Company used an excipient called sorbitol which includes a dangerous chemical while manufacturing medicines.

The MFDA said 15 drugs containing the chemicals had been recalled.
