Fenaka Corporation has launched an inspection across the country following an electrocution incident in Raa Ungoofaaru island.
Managing Director Muaz Mohamed Rasheed told Adhadhu that electricity leaked into a puddle in Ungoofaaru because an electric wire was touching the street light pole.
He said that the inspection will be conducted in the islands to check for electricity problems with the street light poles and to check whether earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCBs) are installed.
"The street lights are installed by the councils. When we looked at the street lights, we found that some of the street lights did not have ELCBs. During the inspection, we will check whether the ELCBs are not installed in public places," Muaz said.
Noting that the inspection will be completed within this week, Muaz said councils will be notified to install ELCBs and make other adjustments if necessary within a certain duration.
Fenaka provides electricity to 157 islands in the country. The street lights in these islands are maintained by the councils.
Two children and an 18-year-old boy were also electrocuted in the incident in Ungoofaaru. The children were discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment but the young man, who is on a ventilator, was taken to Male' for further treatment.
