An agreement has been signed with the Chinese government to conduct feasibility studies for the 100-bed tertiary hospital to be built in Villimale'.
In a press release issued today, the Construction Ministry said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the Villimale' tertiary hospital was signed on January 10 during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to China.
Under the MoU, an agreement was signed today to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of the hospital.
Minister of Construction Dr. Abdulla Muththalib signed on behalf of the Maldives government while Ambassador Wang Lixin signed on behalf of China.
According to the agreement, Chinese authorities will visit Maldives to identify the technical details of the project and prepare the necessary documents for the tender phase of the hospital construction.
The new hospital will be built on the land currently occupied by the Villimale' Hospital. But the existing Villimale' Hospital building will be demolished if more space is needed for the new tertiary hospital.
The government said a clinic or health center will be opened temporarily if the existing hospital is demolished.
