President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is expected to meet the MPs-elect from the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) on Wednesday evening.
Adhadhu understands that the meeting will take place at 4:00 pm at the Muleeaage, the President's official residence in Male'.
The MPs who won the election through the PNC ticket and MPs who joined the PNC after winning the election are also expected to attend the meeting.
MPs-elect who will be working with the government are also expected to be present for the meeting.
It is understood that the nominees for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament will be announced during the meeting.
PNC won 66 seats in the April 21 parliamentary elections. Seven MPs-elect have since joined the party bringing the total number of PNC MPs to 73.
Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, Maldives National Party (MNP) leader Mohamed Nazim, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed and Velidhoo MP-elect Mohamed Abbas from MDA also support the government.
This brings the total number of MPs supporting the government in the 20th Parliament to 78. This is a larger majority than the one secured by the now-opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the 19th Parliament.
