The Defense Ministry on Monday warned that action will be taken against the unauthorized operation of drones near airports and other places with military security.
In an announcement yesterday, the Defense Ministry said the flying of drones near such places has increased recently. Such acts could pose a danger to aviation and airport security, the ministry said.
The Defense Ministry’s permission must be sought to operate drones in any area of the Maldives, the announcement stated, referring to a previous announcement about the requirement of permits.
The ministry warned that action will be taken against the flying of drones without a permit.
“This ministry will not take responsibility for any damage incurred as a result of action taken by the ministry against drones flown without permission,” the Defense Ministry's announcement stated.
On several occasions in the past, pilots complained on social media about the effect on flights from flying drones near the airport. A video of such an incident also circulated on social media recently.
