The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has cancelled applications submitted to buy Vinares flats in Hulhumale' that remained unsold for various reasons and decided not to sell the apartments.
HDC offered 123 unsold Vinares flats for sale on November 5, 2023. There was an overwhelmingly positive response when the submission of online forms was opened at 10 am that day. However, many people were unable to submit forms due to a technical problem with the portal.
In response to complaints, HDC suspended the sale, citing the need to look into the matter. On Tuesday, HDC cancelled the forms submitted earlier, saying that many people had been unable to submit applications.
After cancelling the forms, HDC said it would not sell any more Vinares apartments. HDC said it decided not to sell the Vinares flats in order to provide a solution to people who have not received flats after making payments to buy apartments from various housing projects started in Hulhumale'.
"As efforts are underway to provide solutions depending on availability through the Vinares project under the current government's efforts to provide housing for them, no further offers will be made to sell Vinares apartments," HDC said.
Contracted to the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), the 10 towers built under the Vinares project each have 1,344 three-bedroom apartments. The unsold flats were offered for sale at prices ranging between MVR 2.5 million to MVR 3 million.
