National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) CEO Heena Waleed has been appointed chief spokesperson of the President's Office.
A replacement was appointed to the role for the first time since Mohamed Shaheeb was dismissed as the chief spokesperson of the President's Office on January 1. After Shaheeb was removed from the post for undisclosed reasons, the President transferred him to a state minister at the Foreign Ministry.
According to the President's Office, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Heena to the post with her to also continue working as NSPA CEO. Heena will not be earning a salary for the spokesperson job, the President's Office said.
Heena is also the spokesperson of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC). She was the party's campaign spokesperson for the recently concluded parliamentary elections.
Heena was previously a political director at the Foreign Ministry, prior to which she worked in journalism, serving for many years in state media.
