Recount sought for Dhuvaafaru boxes over 4-vote margin

A losing candidate in the Dhuvaafaru constituency has requested a recount of votes.

Elections Commission (EC) member and spokesperson Hassan Zakariyya told Adhadhu that the recount was requested by Ibrahim Abdul Rahman who lost by a narrow margin of four votes.

The commission will decide on the recount of the ballot boxes today after looking into the matter, Zakariyya said.

"Three people who were representatives of Ibrahim Abdul Rahman had filed a complaint. The commission will decide today," Zakariyya said.

Four candidates contested for the Dhuvaafaru seat. Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) candidate Mohamed Ali secured the seat with 1,074 votes.

Independent candidate Ibrahim Abdul Rahman received 1,070 votes.

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Ismail Ahmed got 579 votes while the Jumhooree Party (JP) candidate Azleen Ahmed got 77 votes.
