Festivities planned in Male' today to mark Eid al-Fitr began with water games this morning.
The water games took place at Rasfannu beach. There was an Eid tea and distribution of gifts to children at 7:30 am before the water games began at 9:30 am.
A traditional Eid parade featuring a large fish made of palm leaves surrounded by costumed dancers covered in ash was due to begin at 4 pm in front of the Olympus theatre and end at the artificial beach.
Cultural activities including bodu beru (traditional drums) and thaara (folk music with tambourines and drums) performances were also organized outside the social center at the same time.
A fireworks display was scheduled for 10 pm after a stage show due to begin at the artificial beach at 8 pm tonight.
