STELCO staff transferred out of island for not supporting government candidate

A State Electricity Company (STELCO) employee has been transferred to a distant island for not supporting the government candidate.

Ali Zahir, the President's chief of staff during the previous government, alleged in a post on X that the transfer was politically motivated.

Ibrahim Munaz was formerly STELCO's station manager in Vaavu Fulidhoo before he was demoted to a technical staff after last year's presidential election, according to Ali Zahir. Munaz has now been handed a chit to be sent over to Alif Dhaal Mandhoo for supporting Zahir, he added.

"He was sent to a far distant island for not supporting a particular candidate while he was a technical staff. They're playing the kind of games that were played inside Fenaka for the 2018 presidential election," Ali Zahir said.

Munaz did not have any record of dereliction or negligence on the job and he did not participate in any activity during working hours, Ali Zahir said.

The incident was a sign that some candidates have lost hope of winning, Ali Zahir said, adding that the government could not earn the public's love with such actions.
