The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that a pool of religious scholars will be formed to conduct religious awareness programs in Bengali targeting Bangladeshis living in Maldives.
In an announcement issued today, the ministry requested interested scholars to inform the ministry before 2:00 pm on March 25.
Interested scholars must be Sunni Muslims and have a first degree in religious studies from a university recognized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. Eligible scholars should also have not violated the Religious Unity Act.
The scholars participating in the pool will receive MVR 500 for each sermon given in Bengali and MVR 1000 for each sermon translated into Bengali.
According to the latest figures released by the Economic Ministry, 139,220 Bangladeshis work in Maldives. However, the latest figure released by the government after referring to the Immigration Border Control system is 90,624 Bangladeshi workers.
