Seven expatriates, allegedly involved in black market foreign currency exchange, have been detained by the Maldives Immigration.
Immigration said they were detained on Saturday in a special operation targeting expatriates involved in black market foreign currency exchange.
The suspects include those who do not have valid visas and those working in contravention of the issued permits.
Immigrations said the operation was conducted after identifying expatriates who were involved in black market foreign currency exchange near the Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM at the Maafannu Starclouds Building.
The operation was conducted by the Immigration Risk Intelligence and Legal Affairs and Enforcement and Compliance Divisions.
Immigration has been conducting operations to identify illegal immigrants and several people have been sent back to their home countries.
