China has decided to provide 1,000 slots for Maldivians to participate in short-term training programs in various fields over the next five years, the Higher Education Ministry has said.
The training opportunities were arranged for the Maldives under an MoU signed between the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the Maldives Higher Education, Labor and Skills Development Ministry during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China in January.
According to details provided in response to a request from Adhadhu under the right to information law, the training is to be offered in fields such as connectivity, finance, digital economy and tourism.
The Chinese government will cover travel and training expenses for Maldivians sent to join the training programs in addition to accommodation and travel during their stay.
The Maldivian government will choose the participants. But the ministry did not provide details on when applications would open or about the eligibility criteria for applicants.
The MoU stated that the training programs to be carried out annually over the next five years would be decided through consultation between the two countries.
