Laboratory testing has confirmed that temporarily banned panadol tablets have the necessary strength and safety, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has said.
MFDA said in a statement today that the quality issue noted with 500mg tablets of panadol was caused by the failure to adhere to standards in transport, handling and storage.
The batch with the quality problems is no longer available in the market, MFDA said.
In order to ensure that such problems do not reoccur, the authority has published and shared standards to be followed by pharmacies in the transport, handling and storage of medicine, MFDA said.
With effect on Thursday, the sale and use of panadol has been reauthorized, MFDA announced.
The quality problem came to light on January 30 when crushed and faded panadol tablets were discovered among random samples taken under the "Post Market Surveillance Plan" to ensure the safety and quality of imported medicinal drugs.
