Former actor Ali Shiyam who described President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as an "evil tyrant" has been appointed to a top post at the Indian embassy.
Shiyam was appointed as the Third Secretary of the Maldives Embassy in India. He is currently attending orientation sessions for diplomats at the Foreign Ministry.
On February 2, Shiyam wrote on social media that "Muizzu is the most evil tyrant I have ever seen." In a previous post, he called President Muizzu "a wicked man."
He also criticized the President for the high number of political appointees in his government.
However, in a post on February 5, Shiyam said that "a righteous leader will not take revenge on what someone says."
While Shiyam has been appointed to a top post in the Indian embassy, he previously worked at the Maldives Consulate General office in India.
Earlier, the government faced criticism over the appointment of actor Ali Seezan as First Secretary at the Maldives embassy in Sri Lanka.
