The government has made new land use plans for the Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru islands planned to be populated under the 'Binveriya' scheme.
The previous government decided to award plots of land from Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru as well as from Hulhumale' phase two and three. The plots were awarded after marking locations.
However, speaking at Parliament's National Development and Heritage Committee, Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar said land use plans were made before without any plan and that the government has now formulated new plans.
"Plots were awarded from Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru before without any kind of definite plan. We have now made plans and finalized them. We have completed preparing land use plans for those places in a way that people could live there. God willing, we will make them public very soon," Haidar said.
The locations of the awarded land plots are likely to change with the new land use plans. The government has not yet stated how it would proceed.
The previous government decided to award land plots to 97 percent of applicants. That is 9,001 plots for 18,955 people. The plots are to be handed over from Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru as well as from Hulhumale' phase two and three.
