Social media activist Ahmed Anwar (Simwar) has been appointed to a position at the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Adhadhu understands that he was appointed to the position of Second Secretary at the Sri Lankan Embassy.

He was one of the most popular activists on social media against the government of former President Abdulla Yameen.

Following Yameen's election defeat in 2018, Anwar returned to Maldives from self-exile and was active in promoting the policies of the new Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government.

He also served as the Senior Executive Director of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Health Ministry during the government of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih from 2018 to 2023.

Anwar later appeared at the forefront of the Democrats, which was formed by members who left MDP amid differences of opinion.

After resigning from the post of Senior Executive Director at some point, he worked against the MDP in the presidential election of 2023.
