A case has surfaced of serious injuries inflicted on a fifth grade student at the Huvadhoo school in Gaaf Dhaal Faresmaathoda who was bullied and beaten with classroom furniture.
A family member of the 11-year-old victim told Adhadhu that the child faced bullying and various forms of violence from four other students before the incident.
On Monday last week, the child was severely beaten with desks and chairs, according to the family.
"The bone near the neck is very swollen. MRI and x-ray have been taken now. We'll know the seriousness of the injury when we get the results," the family member said.
The Huvadhoo school was alerted to the bullying many days ago but failed to take any action, the family said. The case was also reported to the Education Ministry, the family said.
"There was no solution from reporting to the school. The principal has even left the island," the family said.
