The Education Ministry's Permanent Secretary Ahmed Ali has been suspended over a complaint submitted against him.
Civil Service Commission (CSC) President Mohamed Nasih told Adhadhu that Ahmed Ali was suspended yesterday for a 30-day period.
"He was suspended for the investigation process to look into a complaint submitted to the commission. Our regulations allow suspension during the investigation stage as obstacles could be faced to the investigation," he said.
Action will be taken if wrongdoing is proven after investigating the complaints against Ahmed Ali, Nasih said. If not, he could return to work even before 30 days if the investigation is concluded, he added.
Several complaints about Ahmed Ali were lodged with the commission days after the change in government. But the nature of the complaints is unclear.
Ahmed Ali, formerly the principal of several schools and Secretary General of the Elections Commission, was appointed as the Education Ministry's PS on June 13, 2019. As the term of the PS is five years, Ahmed Ali's term of office is due to end in five months.
