A 5.6 magnitude earthquake has struck Sumatra, Indonesia.
The quake struck at 10:19 am today near Sumatra, Indonesia, at a depth of 10 km. No tsunami alert has been issued.
The Met Office said the quake did not affect Maldives and that there is no threat of a tsunami.
"A 5.6-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, this morning is not expected to cause an earthquake/tsunami," the Met Office said in a post on X.
Although no alert has been issued for the Maldives, neighboring Sri Lanka has advised people living along the coast to stay safe.
