A scarcity of eggs has driven up the prices with eggs being sold at the rate of five per person.
Previously, the price of an egg was MVR 1.75. The current price of an egg in retail shops is at MVR 3.
The price of eggs has risen in the local markets as well. Redwave is selling five eggs per person at the rate of MVR 2 each.
Redwave said the decision was made to keep the price at MVR 2 and that a new egg shipment is expected to arrive tonight.
"Our egg shipment will hopefully clear tonight. From tomorrow we will stop limiting eggs, which means that no matter how soon a customer comes to buy a case of eggs, they will be available from Redwave," Redwave's media officer said.
The price of eggs has risen due to a delay in an egg shipment, according to businesses. They also said that they do not know when the price will come down.
