The foundation stone of the new school to be built in Phase 2 of Hulhumale' was laid yesterday.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu the biggest project of his government is to build minds.
"This school will be a relief to all the families living here. RCC is working with the Ministry of Education under the contractor finance model," he said.
Muizzu said the school will be completed within 18 months. The project was awarded in 2021 on a design and build basis.
In addition to 54 classrooms and other education-related facilities, the new school building would feature a turf field and accommodate over 1700 pupils.
Only Salahuddin School remains in Phase 2 of Hulhumale' which was reclaimed during the first Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) government.
The Salahuddin School project was awarded to Amin Construction in late March last year for MVR 118.35 million. The school opened with the current academic year.
