Three MPs from the majority party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), have filed to contest for the vacant post of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.
The post became vacant following the resignation of Galolhu North MP Eva Abdulla at the sitting this morning. She resigned in response to a no-confidence motion.
Hulhumale' MP Ali Niyaz told Adhadhu that three MPs of the main opposition party, the MDP, have filed to contest for the post.
They are Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem and Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir.
MDP parliamentary group will hold a secret vote to elect a nominee from the party. The vote will be taken today.
The Parliament sitting to elect a Deputy Speaker will be held at 08:30 pm tonight. So far, MPs from other parties have not expressed interest in the post.
